William Dorman

Acreage Landscaper in Calgary William Dorman

Reputable Acreage Landscaper in Calgary

William has been working in the horticultural field for over three decades, founding Renaissance Landscapes Inc.in 1999. Taking his passion for the arts & creative process, and blending it with his no-non sense, practical, solutions-based skill set – William looks at issues first when finding solutions. While using common sense in problem solving is often uncommon, at Renaissance Landscapes Inc. it survives and flourishes.

William’s first professional career, for two decades, was as a pastry chef to select hotels & resorts around Toronto, The Muskokas, St Jacobs Ontario, Minaki Lodge near Manitoba & a small village hotel in Austria to name but a few. Alongside this, he paid his way through school while working as a labourer for a landscaping company in Ontario.

He later made his way West in pursuit of new job offers, yet after just a short time working, he realized he’d rather have a flexible work schedule and not be in a hot kitchen twelve-to-sixteen hours per day – so he took up freelance consulting as a certified bankruptcy & insolvency credit counsellor. This allowed him the flexibility of working directly with people who needed honest advice and guidance while also allowing him his desire to spend more time outdoors doing things he enjoyed like golfing, kayaking, and cycling.  However, he soon longed for the creative rewards of designing and maintaining properties as he used to do back in Ontario, and again went back to landscaping, where he’s been ever since.

People often ask William “How did you go from pastry chef to landscape designer/contractor?” Well, the answer is simple: they are both creative pursuits that simply use different mediums to achieve their goals.  Why can’t a person employ design fundamentals to a garden with fruits and vegetables alongside ornamentals? Well, they can – and that’s how Renaissance Landscapes Inc. approaches all of their landscaping projects, with creativity and design first in mind.
